50 residents employed as Bamboo Creek concrete road upgrade 30 per cent complete
One kilometre of laterite road in Bamboo Creek Village in Region Eight is being upgraded to reinforced concrete, improving access while employing about 50 residents.
The Ministry of Public Works said on Monday that the project, being carried out by its Special Projects Unit (SPU), is approximately 30 per cent complete.
Work began on October 1, 2026, and remains on schedule for completion by the end of November.
The upgrade is being undertaken through the government’s community participation model, which involves residents in infrastructure projects through paid employment.
This approach allows income to circulate within the village while helping workers develop construction skills.
Moreover, the new roadway will be 24 feet wide and eight inches thick, designed to withstand daily traffic and weather conditions in the hinterland.
Drainage culverts are also being installed to improve water runoff, reduce erosion and support reliable access throughout the year.
The project forms part of the ministry’s wider programme to improve hinterland infrastructure, strengthen connections within communities and create employment for residents.
