NMCSD Marks Successful Milestone in Annual Staff Influenza Vaccination Campaign

Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) successfully concluded the primary push of its annual staff seasonal influenza vaccination campaign today, Oct. 16, marking a critical milestone in the command's efforts to ensure force health protection and operational readiness.

While today marks the end of the concentrated, command-wide campaign, vaccination efforts do not stop here. Immunizations will remain available to ensure any remaining staff, incoming personnel, and patients continue to have access to the vaccine throughout the winter months.

This systematic vaccination effort directly supports Defense Health Agency (DHA) priorities by preserving a medically ready, deployable force and ensuring healthcare delivery continuity.

“Our primary mission is to ensure the medical readiness of our warfighters, support staff and their families," said Capt. Jerry J. Bailey, director of NMCSD. "The successful completion of this campaign milestone is a testament to our team's dedication. Maintaining high immunization rates preserves our operational capacity and ensures Team NMCSD remains fully prepared to support the joint force.”

Widespread immunization within the military treatment facility is a critical element in protecting the facility's overall patient care mission.

“Securing early and widespread vaccination compliance among our staff is vital to protecting our high-risk patient populations," said Lt. Cmdr. Catherine Bobea, a U.S. Public Health Service officer serving as a clinical pharmacist and the NMCSD immunization program officer. "By establishing this collective barrier, we prevent healthcare-associated transmission and maintain a safe clinical environment across the medical center.”

To support the rapid rollout, NMCSD’s immunization assets set up streamlined processes to ensure minimal disruption to daily clinical operations while maintaining rigorous record-keeping.

“Our logistics and immunization teams mobilized quickly to provide rapid, convenient access to the influenza vaccine for all personnel," explained Tracy L. Lopez, NMCSD immunization program manager and pediatric champion. "While we have wrapped up this major campaign push today, we are focused on continuous tracking and execution so that our readiness posture remains strong through the rest of the season.”

NMCSD employs more than 5,600 active-duty military personnel, civilians and contractors in Southern California to deliver exceptional care.
