Gov. Braun Grows Rural Jobs as River View Farms Plans Major Investment
ORLEANS, Ind. – Indiana Governor Mike Braun announced today that River View Farms, a fifth-generation family-owned agricultural business, will expand its operations in Orleans, creating up to 63 new jobs by the end of 2029 in rural Orange County.
“Indiana has a rich tradition of making and growing the products that keep families across the country fed,” said Gov. Braun. “River View Farms’ expansion in the Indiana Uplands region will create new jobs, boost the community’s rural economy, and strengthen the state’s agriculture sector. We look forward to the company’s continued presence and growth in Indiana, where River View Farms first got its start more than 100 years ago.”
River View Farms, which has been headquartered in Orleans since its founders purchased the original farmstead in 1920, will expand its egg and swine operations. First, the company is building a new 60,000-square-foot egg grading and packaging facility, enabling the company to double its egg grading capacity, improve logistics and reduce operational risks and further support food safety and quality. Once the egg expansion is complete later this year, River View Farms will add a new swine breeding facility as well as a biosecurity vehicle wash, supporting growth of its swine operations and the company’s overall food quality and safety.
The company’s expansion is expected to create more than 60 new jobs across its egg and swine operations, marking one of the most significant business expansions in Orange County in recent years. River View Farms’ growth will also create additional opportunities for local growers and increase the company’s local grain purchases, bolstering Indiana’s agricultural ecosystem.
“The farm and family are deeply connected to Orleans, so we are very proud to invest in the area to help support the community through growing job opportunities and economic development,” said Bryan Johnson, president of River View Farms. “We are proud to expand and secure our mission to produce food and look forward to using our resources to make our community a better place to live and work for generations ahead.”
River View Farms is part of a robust agriculture industry in Indiana that supports more than 53,500 farms and contributes $35.1 billion to the state’s economy each year. Indiana exported $6.35 billion in agricultural exports in 2023, providing high-quality products and helping feed families across the country and around the world.
River View Farms is a diversified agricultural business involved in hog, egg, pullet and crop production. In addition to its Orleans operations, the company operates an egg processing facility in Washington, Indiana, and employs more than 200 Hoosiers.
“Indiana growers and farmers like River View Farms are a significant part of the state’s entrepreneurial ecosystem that employs 1.2 million Hoosiers,” said Indiana Secretary of Commerce Chuck Goodrich. “Indiana ranks top five nationally for small business survival thanks to the perseverance and resilience of entrepreneurs and small business owners. River View Farms has built a legacy right here in Indiana, and we look forward to the company’s continued contributions to Hoosier careers and the Orange County community.”
