DALLAS, TX, UNITED STATES, September 2, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Attorney Niles Illich is pleased to announce a new partnership with veteran appellate attorney Grace Shin, effective August 1, 2026. The new firm is named Illich & Shin, PLLC. This alliance creates a premier legal team focused on criminal appeals (state and federal) and other post-conviction remedies. This firm combines high-level prosecutorial experience with sophisticated defense strategies.

Shin joins the partnership following a distinguished 20-year career with the Appellate Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s office, where she represented the State in more than 200 appeals and in post-conviction habeas proceedings. As an appellate prosecutor, Grace represented the State on cases ranging from routine misdemeanors to high-stakes capital murder cases involving the death penalty.

Shin, in addition to her 20 years of experience as an appellate prosecutor, can communicate with clients in Korean.
Insight from the State Level Shin brings an unparalleled "insider" perspective from her two decades of service for the State of Texas. Her work included:
• Briefing and oral argument on behalf of the State of Texas in criminal appeals.
• Reviewing pretrial motions and motions to suppress to ensure evidence met constitutional standards.
• Assisting trial prosecutors with formulating arguments and objections in anticipation of potential challenges on appeal.
• Reviewing jury charges to insulate convictions from subsequent challenges.

Strategic Advocacy for the Defense In her transition to private practice, Shin leverages her intimate knowledge of how the State approaches an argument for the benefit of her clients. Having spent decades arguing that trial errors were nonexistent or harmless, she is uniquely positioned to identify reversible error.

About the Firm The partnership between Niles Illich and Grace Shin focuses on technical precision in the law. They provide comprehensive services in criminal appeals, collateral attacks via writs of habeas corpus (addressing claims like ineffective assistance of counsel or newly discovered evidence), and motion work.

Grace Shin earned her Juris Doctor from the SMU Dedman School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Texas (admitted 2001) and the State Bar of New York.
